You've lovely bettas. :)
I'm a fishkeeper myself - been keeping fish for ages now - had bettas of my own for years but none as pretty as yours!
Oh - the short-finned bettas aren't Betta splendens anymore, right? As far as I know they're the males of another Betta species...
Chris,
Some of my friends have better looking bettas. According to one book the scientists were able to find proof that they are a distinct species.
I used to have an aquarium book by Herbert Axelrod (lent it out to a friend who's now in the States, never got it back, stupid of me) which listed different species of bettas - I distinctly remember him saying exactly that. Just can't recall what the species name is. Oh well.
Chris,
The ones I can think of...
Betta imbellis
Betta smargdina
Betta pugnax (?)
I lent an aquarium book once and it took me six months to get it back. So now for room use only :)
