Basics: Aquarium keeping basics

There are three main things that determine the success of an aquarium.

The first factor to consider is the fish, plant or invertebrate you want to keep. Each has its own needs that should be met. What does it eat, how big does it get and how does it behave with other fishes or similar fishes.

The second factor to consider is the environment the prospective aquarium owner should know the environmental conditions the fish or aquarium pet is used to. Simulating or approximating the natural environmental conditions of the aquarium pet has several advantages. One, the fish will be healthy. Two, the proper environment will ensure that fish grows to the right size. And three, a proper environment can affect breeding among fishes and lessen agression.

The third important factor is the owner itself. Aquarist or aquarium owner should be willing to spend not only but time in maintaining the aquarium she owns. The aquarium pet is totally dependent on its owner for survival. Remember the aquarium pet is enclosed in an artificial environment and it needs the care of its owner to maintain equilibrium.

Key word here is equilibrium. Keeping all things in balance is to know your aquarium pet, is to know its past and present environment, and is to know yourself - do you have the time and finances to keep an aquarium.

Consider these three things and you will have no problem keeping aquarium pets.
